UConn Student Health and Wellness sent a message announcing the cases to the university community on Friday, Dec. 27, noting students are required to have received two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine in order to attend classes.

There is no increased risk for students at UConn's regional campuses, UConn Law or UConn Health, according to officials.

Mumps is a contagious and infectious viral disease spread through infected respiratory droplets, including coughing and sneezing.

Symptoms include swelling of the jaw, face and cheek. Jaw pain, headache, and fever are other symptoms.
